Welcome to NOCCA: Your First Session Guide

Your NOCCA has arrived - and you are ready to prepare your first charcoal-free shisha session.

NOCCA eHMS (electronic heat management system) replaces traditional charcoal with electronically controlled heat while keeping the rest of your familiar setup: your preferred bowl, your usual tobacco packing, and the shisha you already enjoy.

The first few sessions are about understanding how your bowl, tobacco, and temperature work together. This guide will take you through the complete process, from opening the box to cleaning your device after the session.

Before getting started, check that you have all the components included with your NOCCA.

Your First Session Checklist

Before starting, confirm that:

• NOCCA is charged.

• The bowl is packed fluffy to the rim. 

• The tobacco touches the heating surface.

• The adapter is properly installed.

• The device is stable on the bowl.

After the session:

• Switch the device off.

• Remove it from the bowl and place it on the provided cork pad. 

• Allow everything to cool completely.

• Clean the heating plate and adapter.

• Store NOCCA in a clean, dry place.

Charge Your NOCCA

Fully charge your NOCCA before your first session.

Connect NOCCA using the supplied USB-C charger and allow it to charge fully. You can check the charging status and battery level using the LED indicator, the device’s display, or the NOCCA App once paired.

Battery Runtime

NOCCA provides up to 2 hours of use on a full charge, depending on your bowl, tobacco, temperature setting, smoking intensity, and ambient conditions. Average runtime is approximately 90 minutes, including preheating.

NOCCA also supports charging during use. Starting with a fully charged battery and keeping the device connected to the supplied charger from the beginning of the session can extend runtime to approximately 4 hours, depending on your setup and temperature setting. 

Charging during use extends runtime but does not allow unlimited operation.

Prepare Your Bowl

NOCCA is designed to work with traditional shisha bowls and a standard tobacco setup. It works with most shisha bowls (Phunnel / Multi-hole) with a diameter of up to 8.7 cm. No pods or capsules. 

You can continue using approximately the same amount of tobacco you would normally use for your preferred shisha session.

Pack your bowl as you usually would, but keep the following points in mind:

• Distribute the tobacco evenly.

• Pack loosely to the rim, ensuring the tobacco makes contact with the heating plate. A slight overpack is fine.

A balanced pack allows the heat to spread more evenly and helps prevent overly intense or harsh sessions.

Attach the NOCCA Adapter

Remove the silicone grommet from your shisha stem, then securely fit the NOCCA Adapter onto the stem. Place your packed bowl onto the adapter.

Before continuing, check that:

• The adapter sits evenly and securely.

• The bowl is stable on the adapter.

• NOCCA sits securely on top of the bowl without tilting.

Always use NOCCA with the adapter. Do not place the bowl directly onto the shisha stem.

Once everything is stable, position NOCCA on the bowl and confirm that it is seated correctly before switching it on.

Turning on and Choosing Temperature

After positioning NOCCA on the bowl, turn it on by pressing the “OK” button, then select “Heating.” Choose the Light tobacco preset (270°C) or Dark tobacco preset (300°C).

A preheating cycle of up to 10 minutes starts automatically. You can skip it once the bowl feels ready. For your first few sessions, we recommend allowing time for preheating, then adjusting based on smoke output and flavor. 

Most bowls need around 5–10 minutes to preheat. Thicker bowls, particularly multi-hole designs, generally take longer than phunnel bowls.

The preheating time depends on the bowl’s:

• Shape

• Material

• Thickness

• Size

Allow the bowl to build heat evenly before taking strong or repeated draws.

Once the preheating phase is complete, take a few draws and evaluate the session.

If the smoke output is too light, allow more time or increase the temperature slightly.

If the flavor feels too strong, harsh, or overheated, reduce the temperature and allow the bowl to stabilize.

The ideal temperature depends on several factors, including:

• Bowl shape

• Bowl material

• Bowl thickness

• Tobacco type

• Packing density

• Amount of tobacco

• Preferred session intensity

Small adjustments usually work better than large temperature changes.

Find Your Favorite Setup

Your first session is the beginning of the process, not the final result.

Every combination of bowl, tobacco, packing method, and temperature can create a slightly different experience. A setup that works perfectly with one bowl may need a different temperature or preheating time with another. 

Experiment with:

• Different bowls

• Different tobacco brands and flavors

• Packing style and density

• Temperature settings

• Preheating duration

Once you find a combination you enjoy, you can save your preferred temperature setup in the NOCCA App and return to it during future sessions.

During the Session

NOCCA is designed to maintain controlled heat without the constant charcoal rotation, ash removal, or coal replacement required during a traditional session.

However, you may still want to make small temperature adjustments depending on how the session develops.

Increase the temperature slightly when:

• The smoke output becomes too light.

• The bowl has not fully warmed up.

• The flavor feels weaker than expected.

Reduce the temperature when:

• The session becomes too intense.

• The flavor begins to taste overheated.

• The smoke becomes harsh.

Avoid repeatedly changing the temperature after every draw. Give the bowl time to respond and stabilize after each adjustment.

If everything looks correct but smoke production is low, NOCCA may be seated incorrectly on the bowl, compressing the tobacco or blocking the airflow holes. Gently twist the device on the bowl to help restore airflow.

NOCCA App

Pair your NOCCA with the NOCCA App, available on the App Store and Google Play. Open the device menu, select “Connect,” then scan the QR code displayed on your NOCCA to pair it with your phone.

Once paired, you can turn NOCCA on or off, adjust the temperature, save presets, and track your session data.

Ending the Session and Cooling Down

When you have finished your session, switch NOCCA off.

The display will indicate that the device is hot. Do not touch the lower part of the device. Hold NOCCA by the top, carefully remove it from the bowl, and place it on the provided cork pad or another heat-resistant surface.

Allow NOCCA to cool completely before removing the heating plate, cleaning, or storing it.

Cleaning 

Once NOCCA has cooled completely, remove the heating plate from the underside of the device and wipe it with a paper towel. If needed, rinse the detached plate under water and dry it completely before reattaching it.

Do not scrub, brush, or soak the heating plate, as this may damage its surface.

Do not submerge the NOCCA device in water and do not allow liquid to enter any part of the device. 

The NOCCA adapter can be cleaned separately according to the care instructions included with your device. Make sure every component is completely dry before reassembling or storing the setup.

The difference is how the heat is created and controlled.

Take your time during the first few sessions, experiment with different setups, and make small adjustments until you find the combination that works best for you.
